Tara Belkin Harvey, a ceramic artist originally from Los Angeles, CA, discovered her passion for pottery at just nine years old. Her first experience at the wheel was with Sakuma, a Japanese potter who didn’t speak English. Despite the language barrier, they communicated effortlessly through the art of clay, working on a massive wooden kick wheel that set the foundation for her creative journey.
While studying film, Tara ventured to Somalia to shoot an ethnographic documentary, immersing herself in a village where women mine wild clay for men who create pottery. The craftsmen used their big toes to spin a ground-based wheel balanced on a small stone, shaping the clay with rhythmic paddling to achieve flawless forms—an experience that deepened her appreciation for cultural pottery techniques.
Even as she built a thriving career in entertainment marketing, Tara stayed connected to her craft, hand-building functional pieces and sculptural works.

Now based in Sonoma County with her husband and two cats, Tara continues her creative exploration in clay, blending tradition and innovation from her studio.
